Job Purpose:

We are seeking a Lead Explorationist to serve as the principal technical authority for all exploration activitiesin Libya. The role is responsible for leading subsurface evaluations, exploration portfolio maturation, prospectgeneration, and resource assessment while ensuring the highest standards of technical excellence, projectdelivery, and assurance. The Lead Explorationist will provide strategic guidance for exploration opportunities,support business growth objectives, and ensure full compliance with OMV standards and Libyan regulatoryrequirements.

Your tasks

• Act as the focal point for all exploration activities and projects within the OMV Libya assets, ensuring the application of state-of-the-art exploration methodologies and technologies.
• Lead and be accountable for the technical delivery of exploration studies and projects, ensuring quality, consistency, and compliance with internal standards and governance requirements.
• Drive end-to-end exploration workflows, including seismic interpretation, basin analysis, geological modeling, prospect maturation, risking, and volumetric estimation.
• Prepare and present exploration opportunities, prospect evaluations, and technical recommendations for management reviews, partner discussions, and investment decisions.
• Provide expert technical guidance, to ensure robust and fit-for-purpose exploration deliverables.
• Collaborate closely with multidisciplinary teams, including Geology, Geophysics, Reservoir Engineering, Petrophysics, and Drilling, to deliver integrated subsurface evaluations.
• Oversee the acquisition, quality control, interpretation, and management of seismic and well data, ensuring data integrity and accessibility.
• Support joint venture activities, regulatory submissions, licensing obligations, and partner engagements related to exploration activities.
• Mentor and develop junior exploration professionals, fostering technical excellence and knowledge sharing across the organization.
• Identify and implement innovative exploration technologies, digital solutions, and best practices to enhance exploration performance and value creation.
• Ensure all exploration activities are conducted in compliance with applicable HSSE standards, corporate governance requirements, and Libyan regulations.

Your Profile

• Master's degree (preferred) or Bachelor's degree in Geosciences, Geology, Geophysics, or a related discipline.
• Minimum 15 years of experience in exploration roles within the oil and gas industry.
• Proven track record in prospect generation, evaluation, maturation, and portfolio management.
• Strong experience in North African basins and/or proven exposure to similar geological settings.
• International experience or demonstrated experience working with International Oil Companies (IOCs) and diverse stakeholder groups.
• Extensive expertise in seismic interpretation, geological integration, basin analysis, play-based exploration, prospect risking, and resource assessment.
• Strong understanding of exploration project planning, execution, and technical governance processes.
• Familiarity with Libyan exploration regulations, reporting requirements, and industry practices.
• Advanced proficiency in industry-standard software such as Petrel, PaleoScan, ArcGIS, Player, and related subsurface applications.
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, communication, and presentation skills.
• Demonstrated ability to work effectively in multicultural and multidisciplinary teams.
• Proven leadership and mentoring capabilities.
• Fluent in English and Arabic (written and spoken).
