Your tasks

 

  • Conducting detailed analyses of crude oil, natural gas, petroleum products, as well as biogenic and synthetic feedstocks, intermediates, and final products.
  • Providing insights and solutions for complex analytical challenges related to hydrocarbon characterization, incl. spectroscopic methods (IR, UV, NMR). Support chemical process design with detailed hydrocarbon analysis data and interpretation.
  • Developing, optimizing, and validating chromatographic methods (GC, GC-MS, GCxGC, HPLC) for the qualitative and quantitative analysis of hydrocarbon samples as well as interpreting complex chromatographic data, ensuring accurate identification and quantification of hydrocarbon components from biogenic and synthetic feedstocks, intermediates, and final products.
  • Leading the development and validation of new analytical methodologies to enhance hydrocarbon analysis as well as continuously improving existing methods to increase efficiency, accuracy, and reliability.
  • Collaborating with process engineers to provide analytical support for the design and optimization of chemical processes as well as utilizing hydrocarbon analysis data to improve process efficiency, yield, and safety.
  • Leading R&D projects focused on the development of new analytical methodologies and enhancement of existing techniques as well as staying abreast of the latest advancements in chromatography, HPLC, and hydrocarbon analysis, integrating new technologies and approaches into the lab.
  • Applying chemometric techniques to analyze complex chemical data sets, enhancing the interpretation and reliability of analytical results as well as using statistical and mathematical methods to design experiments, optimize analytical processes, and develop predictive models for hydrocarbon analysis. 
  • Overseeing laboratory operations, ensuring the efficient and safe use of instruments and resources as well as managing projects, timelines, and budgets effectively to meet organizational goals.
  • Mentoring and training junior chemists and laboratory technicians in advanced chromatographic techniques, HPLC, and hydrocarbon analytics as well as fostering a collaborative and innovative work environment, encouraging continuous learning and development.
  • Leading the design and implementation of a chromatography lab OMV's Innovation Campus, selection of equipment incl. LIMS.

Your profile

 

  • University Master's Degree/Diploma in the field of Analytical Chemistry, Chemistry, Chemical Engineering or similar.
  • At least 7 years of relevant professional experience in the field of analytical chemistry.
  • Sound proficiency in chromatographic techniques, particularly GCxGC, GC, and GC-MS, knowledge in spectroscopy (e.g. IR, UV, NMR).
  • In-depth knowledge of hydrocarbon chemistry and analysis, incl. biogenic hydrocarbons as well as experience with method development, validation, and troubleshooting.
  • Strong data interpretation and analytical skills and familiarity with analytical software, as well as general scientific software (e.g. Matlab, Python, Origin, JMP).
  • Advanced English language skills (German is a plus).
